Tang Dynasty China, 824 A.D.
Dao was raised as a servant, but when her half-sister flees an arranged marriage to a chieftain, Dao is sent in her place as Princess An-Ming. Such a future is better than she could have hoped for, yet she dreads a passionless union with a stranger.
Taken as a virtual hostage to the Imperial court, Kwan-Li is torn between his people and his duty to the emperor. He is bound by honor to escort the princess safely across the wild and untamed steppe, but the greatest danger they face on the long journey may be the forbidden temptation of each other…

Hi Jeannie, I hope you enjoyed doing research on the Khitans! I always have so much fun reading about their history and culture. Sneaky person that I am, I always try to come up with all sorts of excuses to prevent my male characters from not adopting the traditional hairstyle. Is the excerpt the final version? I do spot a couple of minor typos. Looking forward to the release date!

Hi Sherry!
The excerpt is pre-copy edit, so hopefully those typos were corrected in the final stage.
The traditional hairstyle may work fine in non-romance…or if they can keep their hats on? 🙂
I’m not unique to working around hairstyles though. There are so many western historical romances where it’s explained that the hero doesn’t wear powdered wigs like everyone else, etc.

Oops, please ignore the confusing “not” in my previous comment, haha. I do love their fur caps though! Not sure who the original artist(s) are, but the same lovely illustrations in the video are featured in the emperors’ biographies on Baike Baidu.
I always thought Dao’s love interest would be the chieftain, but it looks like the poor guy won’t be getting a new wife after all! Dao will surely eat her “No woman would have you” declaration, no matter how practical she thinks she is, hehe.
