Mid-autumn moon festival

mooncakeToday is the mid-autumn celebration. It’s one of those lunar holidays that floats around each year. On the lunar calendar, it falls on the 15th day of the 8th month.

I bought some moon cakes from a Chinese bakery when I was in NorCal to celebrate. I always thought they looked prettier than they tasted. A website I went to compared them to fruitcake — not in taste or appearance, but in cache. Everyone buys them around this time, but the majority just sit around until they dry up and get thrown away. These are pretty good. And they’re tiny so you don’t end up with too much at once. 🙂

So if you’re out and about tonight, take a moment to enjoy the moon. It’s rainy here so I don’t think I’ll be able to.
