About

Jeannie Lin

Jeannie Lin writes award-winning historical fiction, romance, and fantasy. She is most known for Tang Dynasty historical romances and the bestselling Lotus Palace Mysteries series. She is a writing instructor for UCLA Extension teaching Romance Novel 1 and 2.

Jeannie Lin is a frequent presenter at national professional conferences in writing and information technology.

Jeannie started writing in 2005 while she was teaching high school. After a long journey through rejections and contests and revisions, her manuscript, Butterfly Swords, won the 2009 Golden Heart® award for historical romance. The Lotus Palace, Book 1 of the Lotus Palace Mysteries, is a USA Today Bestseller and a “Times Magazine 50 Romances to Read Right Now”. Red Blossom in Snow was named a New York Times Notable Book in 2022, one of the few independently published titles to receive this distinction. Check the Books section for information on individual titles and release dates.

Her stories are inspired by her love of adventure, history, and fantasy in both western and Asian traditions. From an early age she was fascinated by legends of King Arthur and the fantasy of Lord of the Rings as well as the Chinese wuxia (martial arts) fiction. As a result, she writes heroic characters in epic situations while interweaving a strong romance to make larger than life characters human. For more on wuxia and the historical background to her books, see the extras section.

Jeannie is represented by Gail Fortune of the Talbot Fortune Agency Inc.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What are you currently working on?

I’m currently writing the 5th and final novel in the Lotus Palace mystery series. Preparing The Lotus Palace and The Jade Temptress for reprinting has really helped sink me back into the world of the Pingkang li. I’m not going to jinx my progress my promising anything resembling a release date, but it’s been a lot of fun revisiting some old friends.

2. When is your next book coming out?

Update as of 3/28/2026: I am currently focused on mentoring/teaching as well as releasing print editions of The Lotus Palace and The Jade Temptress.

A special hardcover edition of Butterfly Swords will be available later this year as part of a Kickstarter campaign that launches May 2026. Check out the gorgeous project page here.

Also, I have a short story, “Tale of the Ghost Forest” coming out in an upcoming wuxia-themed anthology this year.

I try to keep my website updated with information on new releases as soon as I know them. For more information on upcoming titles, see the Books section.
