Highly anticipated by me, of course. I just received a scan of the cover flat this morning. Apparently, the Harlequin art department worked quite hard putting it together and I’m very grateful. The cover stands out from across the room!

But the part that made me most weepy…yes, okay. I did sniffle a little…The part that made me most verklempt was the little inscription along the spine that says “Tang Dynasty – China”. I’ve read so many Harlequin Historicals and I’ve seen different categories along there. “Regency – England” “Medieval – Scotland” “Western – America”

And here it is. My little book, the new kid on the playground!

It’s a super cover, Jeannie! It captures the attention (draws the eye) immediately and keeps it there with the subtlies of the rest of the details. So much to discover there. As Liz said, the back cover art is intriguing, too.

Congratulatons!!!

Anna Treece says:

Congratulations! It looks fantastic!

Jeannie Lin says:

I’m quite fond of the back cover myself.

Mum thinks the girl looks too ferocious and she shuddered at the sword, but she’s never liked swords. Other than that she approves. :)

Hey, the girl’s supposed to look ferocious, so that’s good. LOL Aside from that, my computer graphic-designer husband’s comment was, “Damn. There’s competition.” Then he ran downstairs to his computer. You go, girl! :D

It is absolutely gorgeous and I can’t wait to read it! SQUEEEE!

Nadia Lee says:

It’s stunning. Congratulations!

Rashda says:

Nice! Congratulations! This will definitely stand out. Looking forward to the read :)

Michelle Wilson says:

Congratulations Jeannie! Yay! I’m so very thrilled for you. The cover is absolutely gorgeous. Is that a butterfly sword she is holding? Eh hem, I can’t wait for my signed copy :) i do agree, seeing China on the spine is a teary moment.

Jeannie Lin says:

The sword she’s holding would be about right for a butterfly sword in terms of length. One friend commented that there should be two, but that doesn’t bother me at all. Just on Sunday, someone asked me what I wanted on the cover and I said a red dress and a sword — and my wish came true. In more ways than one.

Vicki Bendau says:

Red dresses and swords! Oh my yes. Truly the ‘grabbiest’ cover I’ve ever seen. Jeannie I am so happy that you love it. All the best to you. Vicki (B) from our asian authors group

WOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Kristi says:

That cover is gorgeous, Jeannie! And its totally one that would catch my eye from across the store, even if I didn’t know the author :) And since you’re lacking the man-chest, I suspect you’ll get a couple of buyers of non-romance “historical fiction” checking your book out too (which is a good thing…get them hooked on cool history plus a huge emotional hit!)

Jeannie Lin says:

Kristi — nothing against man chest, but I was really hoping for a non-man chest cover for that reason! I mean, it has swords and action. I know there are a couple of non-romance readers interested and men are more likely to buy if there’s no beefcake on the cover, I think.

That’s one stunning cover, Jeannie Lin! You’re right: this one will jump out at readers from across a room. I understand why you’re excited about seeing “China” on the spine. What a perfect time for this book, when the world’s fascination with China is growing.

Love it! Very eye catching. Congrats.

Dara says:

SQUEE!!! That’s lovely!

Dara says:

And especially exciting is the historical category on the spine–hooray! Hopefully yours will help open up the floodgates for all the Asian fiction :)

Jax Cassidy says:

Congratulations on the gorgeous cover! I’m so happy for you. Wow, looking back to when we first met and you were first working on this project…it seems like time just whizzed by. You should hang it proudly in your office!

Jeannie Lin says:

Oh Jax, it feels like such a long time ago to me. Of course, I’m in the time warp of waiting for my first book to be published.

Robin says:

Congratulations, Jeannie ~ it’s a beautiful and very eye-catching cover! I’m so excited for you.

I wanted to tell you what an awesome workshop you gave to LARA. I thought you were fantastic! Thanks so much for sharing all your insight. I’m sorry I didn’t get a chance to say hi in person!

Jeannie Lin says:

Hi Robin! I wish I could have stayed and talked to everyone. My Little Sis had to get home so I had to play chauffeur. I loved seeing everyone!

Oh Jeannie, It’s GORGEOUS! Absolutely beautiful! I can’t wait to buy a copy of my very own. CONGRATULATIONS!!!!
