Happy holidays and welcome to the second to last day of the Harlequin Historical Advent Calendar!

Like my nifty slide show? I made it all by myself after several failed attempts to get some fancier @!@#$ widgets working. It’s part of my Holiday Giveaway which is easier than pie to enter.

Note: Some of the titles are shorter length novellas (but still full of romance and drama, I assure you). The description of each title includes the length and available versions. For excerpts and more information, see the Books section.

Instructions

Today’s prize: I’ll be randomly selecting three visitors to receive their choice of any one of my Tang Dynasty romances. The drawing will be open until 9am CST Friday, December 23rd. To be entered, simply watch the slideshow and comment with which title you’d like to receive and which version if both print and digital are available. Include a valid e-mail address in the comment form so I can contact you if you’ve won. One entry allowed per person. (Digital versions will be gifted through Kindle or Barnes & Noble. If a digital version is not available for the region, a print copy of the same title or another title may be substituted.)

Example of a valid entry: I’d love to read The Dragon and the Pearl! Digital copy please.

Grand prize: All valid entries for the daily prize will also automatically be entered for the Grand Prize. On Friday, December 23rd, the Harlequin Historical authors will randomly select a day from the advent calendar. Then another random number will be chosen to select the grand prize winner of a Kindle Fire or equivalent Kindle product if the winner lives in a region where the Kindle Fire is not available.

Invalid entries without a good e-mail address or without a selected title will be disqualified from both the daily drawing as well as the Grand Prize drawing.

Intrigued by my exotic settings and killer graphics skills? Sign-up for my newsletter for updates on upcoming releases and other special events. You can also follow me on Twitter or add my RSS feed. I like to chit-chat about interesting historical research, reflect upon writerly things, and occasionally rave about great books I’ve read. Oh yes, I’ve also just given birth to twins exactly one week ago so there may be the occasional mention about them.

(None of these things are required to enter the contest. In fact, I’d prefer you don’t follow or subscribe unless you want to occasionally hear from me. So as I used to say as a teacher, there’s no extra credit!)

Comment and enjoy the rest of your day!

Rumors of my untimely demise…

Are only partially exaggerated.

Given my zealous launch celebration last year about this time for BUTTERFLY SWORDS, I may seem relatively quiet for my upcoming release of the short story THE LADY’S SCANDALOUS NIGHT on September 1st followed by the release of THE DRAGON AND THE PEARL on September 20th.

I’m definitely still planning a little celebration with prizes and of course some signings and appearances, but nothing to rival the bacchanalia (new favorite word) of the BUTTERFLY SWORDS launch. The main reason why is—yes this is unscrupulous of me–I’m playing the CARD.

The “I’m going to be a mommy card”. Here’s my proof:

*blink* *blink* Yes, those are TWO little zygotes in there. No, neither hubby nor I have twins in either of our families. Yes, we were shocked, but quite excited. They’re cute, no? Actually this was the first ultrasound so they were just little blobs. They now look like little peanuts with tiny stick arms and legs. I told hubby they look just like him. :)

No worries. This is not going to turn into a baby blog, but there were a few people who suspected after my less than chipper appearance at RWA and so yes, the rumors are true. And if you happen to want to have mercy on me and help me spread the word about THE DRAGON AND THE PEARL since I’m going to be lying low and incubating…I did confess to being unscrupulous right?

I’m still waiting on pins and needles for the cover of THE LADY’S SCANDALOUS NIGHT (pre-order: Amazon(Kindle) | Barnes & Noble (Nook) ) The story is a parallel tale to THE DRAGON AND THE PEARL. They both can be read independently though chronologically they happen at the same time. I’m hoping “Scandalous Night” will seduce readers into the sexy battle of wills in “Dragon and Pearl.” MWHAHAHA!!

To be announced:

  • The cover for THE LADY’S SCANDALOUS NIGHT (fingers crossed that my cover karma holds out)
  • THE DRAGON AND THE PEARL galley will be made available on NetGalley for reviewers
  • My first southern California booksignings: San Diego and hopefully Los Angeles
  • Some nice launch prizes for those of you who would like to join in like last time
  • A little Dragon and Pearl blog tour

Stay tuned. Same bat time. Same bat channel…

Congratulations to June Munday!

The maneki neko beckons to you. I’ll be contacting you shortly to get your mailing address to send you the lucky cat in the red takeout box. You’ll also receive an autographed copy of Butterfly Swords. Enjoy!

Thank you to everyone for participating. The Grand Prize winner will be announced on the Harlequin Historical Blog today.

And as a final footnote, my scavenger hunt revolved around finding the answer to whether they celebrated Christmas in the Tang Dynasty. Would you be surprised to find that there were Christian places of worship in 7th-8th century China? The contest is closed, but you can still find the fascinating historical info here: Christmas in the Tang Dynasty

*The winners have been selected! Check the Harlequin Historical blog for the Grand Prize winner to be announced Dec. 23, 2010. Daily winners are posted here.

Did they celebrate Christmas in the Tang Dynasty? Join the hunt!

Or you could try Googling it, but what fun would that be? And you’d get no shiny prizes.

Today I’m hosting a holiday giveaway for a special Asian-themed gift box as part of the Harlequin Historical Advent Calendar celebration. I love scavenger hunts so I decided to have a virtual one. Find this heart shaped ornament hidden on another page on my website and click on it to be entered in my giveaway as well as the drawing for the Kindle.

Oh, what’s in the box? Well, you’ll just have to find the heart ornament to find out, won’t you?

HINT: The ornament is hidden on the website and not the blog…but feel free to browse the blog if you’re interested.

The giveaway will be open today until December 22nd. On the 23rd, I’ll draw for my winner AND the Grand Prize winner will also be drawn on the Harlequin Historical Facebook page.

Eligibility: My giveaway is open to all international participants. The Grand Prize is open to readers in the U.S., United Kingdom, Ireland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. Click here for Grand Prize eligibility rules.

Good luck and happy hunting! (And remember to visit Elizabeth Rolls on Sunday, December 5th)

P.S. I’ll be sending out hints today on Twitter and Facebook if you’d like to follow along.

Harlequin Historical celebrates 1000 books

Since its inception, the Harlequin® Historical line (of which I’m proudly a part of) has published over 1000 titles. My senior editor, Linda Fildew, takes a walk from the first releases to the most current.

#1000 is Christine Merrill’s Paying the Virgin’s Price:

It was also fun seeing the original covers and how the cover art has evolved. There’s a nice mention of #1014 – Butterfly Swords coming in October. :)

It feels kind of nice being a part of a long running tradition:

dragon_pearl_smallHarlequin offered a two book contract for more Harlequin Historicals and two short stories for Harlequin Historical Undone.

Of the books, The Dragon and The Pearl is next in line for release after Butterfly Swords. The title may be changed though I’ve become so attached to it! The story is near and dear to my heart….well, they all are after so much work goes into them….but this one in particular because I had such a strong bond with both of these characters before I even started writing.

Not to mention the good omens that came with it! The title was suggested by author Elizabeth Grayson during a living room pitch session before Nationals and it shaped the rest of the story. This manuscript was also the very first time I received a request from an editor off of pages. A much needed ray of light.

But I digress. For now, I’m dancing around and singing: More books! More books! More books!
