Hello RTC’ers! I tried to make this as easy as I could.

Here are the templates for download. They are in compressed zip files and are saved as .PNG files which should be usable in most image programs. A good open source that’s available online is GIMP. There’s a Windows and I believe Linux download here. Mac users…um..you’re on your own. I don’t know Mac.

Download GIMP 2.6.11

When you open the template, you’ll notice that it’s lying on it’s side, like this:

That’s because that’s how you have to turn it into GotPrint. (I asked them if there was any way to change that and they said not at this time.)

So you may need to flip the image to work with it and flip it back. There are separate layers for the frame. The Guideline layer is what GotPrint provides. You’ll see how I tried to frame the borders and lettering around those guides. When you save it to send to GotPrint, you must remove the guide layer or make it invisible so it doesn’t show up.

You’ll be uploading TWO images to GotPrint – the front and the back.

To do your cover on the back, you’ll have to format your image in the same way by lying it on it’s side:

Now it’s time to get friendly with your graphic design friends. Everyone knows someone, right?

Remember, all images must follow the GotPrint guidelines:

The templates below have been created with those guidelines incorporated. If you are not using the genre templates, please adhere to the guides above so your images show correctly.

Historical Contemporary Erotic Romance Romantic Suspense
Paranormal Fantasy Futuristic Women’s Fiction
I will not be creating any more templates. If you wish to add a different genre, you may download the generic template and create your own.

You’ve found the holiday ornament! (The winners have been selected as of Dec. 23, 2010. Thank you for participating!)

Christmas in the Tang Dynasty

Did you know that the first recorded Christian mission to China took place during the Tang Dynasty? The visit is documented on the Nestorian Stele which was erected in the 8th century. The tablet details the arrival of a group of Christians led by a man named Alopen. The missionaries arrived in 635 A.D. to the capital city of Changan. Subsequently, several Christian places of worship were erected in China.

The Nestorian Stele – Notice the cross at the top?

So even if you don’t win the giveaway, you received a little trivia for your efforts, n’est-ce pas?

Here’s the lovely prize:

If you know me, you know I love cats. The “Lucky Cat” is actually not Chinese. Maneki Neko is a Japanese icon and he’s beckoning with one paw. He’s believed to bring the owner luck. I’ll be sending the lucky winner the Maneki Neko cat in in an ornate red “take out” box along with a Butterfly Swords souvenir charm. Red is a color of celebration, happiness, and good fortune in Chinese culture, which is why you see it everywhere.

Along with the takeout box, I’ll also be sending an autographed copy of Butterfly Swords. If the winner has already read it, they can give it to someone they love as a gift for Christmas. :)

For the Grand Prize giveaway: I LOVE my new Kindle, so I’ll also be adding a Kindle copy of Butterfly Swords and The Taming of Mei Lin to the Grand Prize.

Thanks for visiting. Add a comment below to be entered for both giveaways!

If you would like to be added to my newsletter for news and updates on releases, please use the link on the sidebar. E-mails for this contest will not be automatically added to the newsletter.

Launch Celebration From September 1 – October 15

The official release date for Butterfly Swords is October 1, 2010! I’ve been touched by the enthusiasm people have shown for the book so I wanted to put some fun launch activities together in September and October.

jeannie_w_swords_smallGrand Prize - A pair of steel butterfly swords*. The very same ones I used with my costume in the Dress For Historical Success workshop!

Grand Prize - A one-of-a-kind annotated version of Butterfly Swords with handwritten comments by moi. Think of it as the DVD commentary, book version. It will include discussion about story elements, reflections, how parts of the story evolved. Thought it might be fun to do.

Grand Prize - A color 8.5 x 11 print of Butterfly Swords by deviantArtist schumy330 (Cha Cha).

The three Grand Prizes will be drawn on October 15.

Book Giveaways

In addition to giveaways for Butterfly Swords and The Taming of Mei Lin, I will also be giving away a couple of other awesome titles with the same spirit of adventure and romance as my stories.

I will be speaking in Nashville at the 2010 RWA national conference along with partner in crime, Kristina McMorris. Our workshop, “Selling the Hard Sell”, goes over our query and submission process and how we always had an eye on the market, despite our “unmarketable” proposals.

Conference dates are July 28-31.

I’ll be speaking at the NECRWA Let Your Imagination Take Flight conference March 26-27, 2010.

The workshop is titled “Page 1, 5, 50 – Keeping them Hooked”. In this hard market, to sell the ‘hard sell’ novel, I learned with each contest, submission, and rejection what was needed to keep editors and agents reading. I meticulously tracked the responses to my submissions with each revision until, slowly, but surely, more and more of the novel was requested. I’ll be going over the key lessons I’ve learned about conflict, character and pacing to keep agents and editors hooked at each of these critical points through a partial submission.
